Dear President, Dear Executive Director,
I feel honoured to announce to you that the Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics (A.I.D.A.A.) intends to make a proposal to host the 75th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Italy in 2024. Following on the various discussions, meetings, presentations and the final assembly discussion we had in the recent IAC editions, in particular the one in Bremen, we propose Milano as the host city.
The A.I.D.A.A., founded in 1920, is one of the oldest Astronautical Association worldwide and founding member of IAF. The A.I.D.A.A. and the Italian astronautical community have strongly supported IAF in the last 70 years, by hosting several IAC editions and contributing continuously and significantly to the scientific events.
Milano is the second-largest Italian city, very much industry and business-oriented, it was the host city of the international exposition EXPO 2015. Milano has the required facilities and logistics to meet the needs of the currently growing events at IAC. The Municipality of Milano, the Regione Lombardia, and the Italian Government strongly support this proposal.
The Italian industries, the Agenzia Spaziale Italiana ASI, the research centers and governmental institutions support the present initiative, and we will work hard to make an unforgettable edition of IAC. Many other worldwide Associations and IAF Associates, including industries, are enthusiastic of our proposal.
Public engagement is a challenging issue for us all. We believe that it will be facilitated by hosting the event in one of the most important and beautiful cities of Europe. The involvement of undergraduate, graduate and Ph.D. students, as well as young scientists is of prime interest for us. The A.I.D.A.A. has a student chapter and sections in the nine Italian universities (including Milano) which offer space and/or aerospace degrees, including masters devoted to Space Exploration and Satellite engineering.
Our affiliated universities will do their best to involve students and teachers worldwide.
We would be happy to be back with you for any queries.
Looking forward to submitting a full detailed proposal by the due date, I remain,
Yours Sincerely
Erasmo Carrera
